Typical Sample Materials

Theory of Operation

CSBox Tube CS is a computer-controlled instrument used for simultaneous assessment of carbon and sulphur in a wide variety of organic materials, including coal, coke, oils, feed ,biomass, cement, soils, and more.

The analyser employs high-temperature combustion followed by Non-dispersive infrared detection. In a ceramic boat, a weighted test part of the sample is burned at a high temperature in an oxygen-steam-filled horizontal tube furnace. The carbon and sulphur components in the samples breakdown and oxidise completely to gaseous CO2 and SO2 during combustion.

CO2 + SO2 + H2O

The Unique design of the Analyzer prevents any atmospheric gases to enter combustion zone.

The generated CO2 and SO2 gases are routed selectively via glass tubes containing magnesium perchlorate after going through a moisture trap and particle filter. The sample gases free of moisture are passed through two independent Non-Dispersive Infrared Detectors (NDIR) cells. The NDIR detector measured these produced CO2 and SO2 gases at a precise wavelength within the IR spectrum. The analyser converts these values to percentages/ppm concentration.
