What is a Muffle Furnace?
Traditionally, a muffle furnace features a hollow ceramic chamber - called the muffle - heated by electricity or gas and enclosed within a thermally insulated box. A door provides access to the heated chamber.
Today, the term “muffle furnace” commonly refers to any furnace with a rectangular chamber (with or without a ceramic muffle) operating between 600°C and 1800°C. They are also known as chamber furnaces or box furnaces.
